Newton Emerson.. Sick of Peace!

Gerry Junior

The Nerd of the North, and Nonsensical Numpty they call Newton Emerson had another supposed ‘satirical’ swipe at Ógra in his Saturday Irish News column. He writes:

“Ógra Shinn Féin has criticised the view that collusion was the work of ‘a few rouge members of the RUC.’ Don’t they know you can’t put lipstick on a pig?”

I know, like yourselves I was falling of the chair after that ingenious burst of comedial wit – NOT!

Although it shows how far reaching the Republican project is, when Unionists like Newton are running around referring to the RUC as pigs.

Imagine describing them as that, disgraceful….. the poor pigs!

(Handsome Devil our Newton!)

The ‘genius’, with a face that only a mother could love has been churning out this wit for years. The worst about it is that this Casanova actually gets paid to write the stuff.

Lauded by the mainstream media for his apolitical and apathetic antagonism, he suits their agenda that all politics is bad and boring. He has described Irish politics as patently absurd… strange considering his ramblings. Pot, kettle and all that.

As he in true optimistic ‘satirical’ fashion finishes his column on Saturday,

“Finally in the spirit of every other columnist in Norn Iron (his words). I must write a few words on how wonderful it was in 2007 to see old enemies come together in a spirit of co-operation leading to a bright new dawn for all the people. No, sorry. I can’t do this. Pass the sick bag.”

So there you have it, this self pontificating, cotton wrapped mummy’s boy from Pleasantville heights, Portadown is getting sick at the prospect of peace….

I’ve an idea Newton, how about a plane ticket to Antartica instead… might help you get over your sickness! Then again I wouldn’t wish that on the poor penguins.

Newton Emerson... he referred to Ógra as 'teenage dirtbags' couple of years ago and slagged of Barry McColgan in the Daily Mirror a few months back.

I don't get it. Fair enough he may have a gripe with republicans being a Unionist and all but to criticise young republicans who are active in actions like Suicide Prevention, Road Safety and Drugs Awareness dumbfounds me.

Don't listen to naysayers. Great work Ógra.

I am by no means a fan of that pox Mr. Emerson but I do think it spells volumes about the power of *queue drumroll* the MIGHTY SPELLCHECK!

In all seriousness though, this witty piece cheered me up no end - evoked images of lines of PSNI officers doing the can-can moulin rouge style ;)

As for calling Ogra "teenage dritbags", well he's the one talking about putting lipstick on pigs. Each to their own I suppose ;)

I would expect nothing more from a Portadown loyalist/bigot.

Emerson, has nothing to offer, but patronising dribble, his politics are not based on life experience, he is nothing more than a mummys boy with nothing to offer society but snide and stupid remarks. excellent post.

Nice one..

Some supposed republicans have some nerve defending this disaster on other sites after his disgusting comments on the Hungerstrikers.

He showed himself to be nothng more than a bigoted loyalist with his offensive remarks.. far from satire.

And then the other keyboard revolutionaries criticising Ógra.. you have to laugh at them. Cynics and wingnuts, nothing more.

Up the Republic!

I have to agree with Stephie on this one. This article could have been avoided with the use of spellcheck.

When push comes to shove, this guy is a political satirist. When the youth wing of one of the North's foremost political parties refers to 'rouge cops' of course he is going to take the mick. After all, it is his job.

The best way to deal with it is to take the mick back, which ye did very well.

So he's a bigoted loyalist?

I don't think many loyalists approved of his satire in the Portadown News where "Billy Shootspatrick" was usually portrayed as a thick, drug-dealing thug.

But if it suits the Shinner kiddies to stick labels on him, go ahead.

libero, i suppose it suits you to put labels on people also; "SHINNER KIDDIES"?

I doubt this will make it onto the post as it seems that you like to moderate all comments but I'd like to point out the following for your own future reference:

"Putting lipstick on a pig" is an old phrase which means to put a fresh coat of paint on an old idea or recycle an ideology and pass if off as something new and dynamic.

Emerson wasn't literally referring to anyone or anything as "a pig". It was an ironic turn of phrase that has been employed by many US politicians, from Barack Obama to Dick Cheney. So really at worse, Emerson can be only be accused of not being particularly original.

Taking the phrase in the literal sense only shows your lack of sophistication and talent as a writer, Gerry Junior. Better luck next time.
