"That this congress accepts that the easter lily be made available by Ógra members to Ulster Bus and Translink workers, and BBC and UTV workers, and to implement a campaign to bring equality to the 6 counties."
The Easter Lily is worn by Republicans every year at Easter time, it was designed in 1925 by Cumann na mBan to honour the sacrifice made by the men and women of the 1916 Rising and the Tan War. The symbol is associated with the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin, the design being taken from the seasonal decoration in churches during that period.
The Easter Lily is our emblem to remember those who give their lives in the battle for freedom of small nations, of which Ireland is one. The Easter Lily is currently uncategorised by the equality commission.
Damian White of Armagh Ógra Shinn Féin said,
“I’m glad to see such pride in the Easter Lily being shown, and I have noticed over the last number of years the amount of people wearing the Lily is increasing. I hope this will continue right up until the centenary year of 2016 when true republicans who have stood by the proclamation will gather to honour the sacrifice made, that Easter time 1916. Republicans in all ways of life should be free to display the Easter Lily in remembrance of our patriot dead.”
"Ógra Shinn Féin activists should be launching and promoting the Easter Lily much earlier this year to ensure that more and more people proudly wear their Lily in memory of our Patriot Dead."

Could someone clarify for me the legal position regarding the wearing of the easter lilly in schools?
All through my school years i have been asked to remove the lilly from my blazer although in true rebellious spirit it was always repinned on the blazer once the teacher had gone. however i never really seeked weather or not teachers had the right to tell us to take off our easter lillys. If someone could enlighten me i would appreciate it as we have members of our cumman at secondary school age now and who are experiencing the same treatment from the "not so Republican staff".

i dont know the law but u should be free too wear what u want but teachers have a come back by saying its not part of the uniform "so take it off"
i work in a bar it was knowin of my politics and i was told not to wear anythin of republican nature when working because of offense to customers.
As a teacher I can tell you that most schools reserve the right to tell what pupils what to wear. But I can tell you that all schools get money for the number of pupils they have. If all the 5th years went out on strike it would make the management of the school sit up and take notice.Other options they could do is go slow, work to rule i.e. if the rule says stay on the left in the corridors, do it and stay put if something is in your road. One thing is for sure - I will be wearing mine. EC
