Cúige Uladh Ógra Shinn Féin held their AGM on Sunday Jan 11 in Newcastle, Co. Down; the concluding event of the Newcastle Republican Youth Weekend. Around 50 activists spanning the Cúige area, and even some guests from elsewhere across the country, were in attendance.Cúige Uladh Chairperson Cllr. Johnny McGibbon commented,
“I am happy we had the opportunity to conclude our weekend with the Cúige Uladh AGM. We have now elected our new Officer Board for the year and we look forward to 2009.”
"We will continue to build Ógra in Ulster and continue our work to promote Republican politics amongst young people."
He also commented,
“Despite media sensationalism, attempts by some within unionism to score political points and even ‘bomb-scares’; the Newcastle Republican Youth Weekend was a complete success. This is a credit to Ógra Shinn Féin and Republicanism in Co. Down.”
