Pull down the watch towers, they're going home at last.....

West Tyrone Ógra Shinn Féin has said that the pulling down of the British army watchtowers in Omagh’s Lisanelly camp is results of the republican agenda delivering. The dismantling of the watchtowers follows the removal of a number of cameras around the perimeter fence of the British army camp this week. Many of the cameras facing into the strathroy estate and the adjoining strathroy road were removed.

Speaking of the demilitarisation of Lisanelly British Army Barracks, Ógra Shinn Féin National Organiser Barry McColgan said,

“Ógra Shinn Féin has been very clear in our agenda throughout the last 5 years of our annual British demilitarisation weekends in Omagh. We wanted to see this blight on the landscape removed and the British army to be withdrawn from the north of Ireland. We have succeeded in gaining the dismantling of the base and we are happy with the progress made. However without other groups such as Sinn Féin and the Omagh Resident’s Demilitarisation Committee this progress wouldn’t have been achieved."

"We in Ógra Shinn Féin look forward to the closure of the base in August and are working towards hosting another demilitarisation weekend in Omagh this year as a final farewell to the manifestation of British Imperialism in the town. It will also act as a thank you to residents, comrades and indeed international comrades also for the help they have given us over the last 5 years of the demilitarisation campaign and weekends in Omagh."
