Ógra Shinn Féin joined several thousand people at the weekend in Dublin demanding a public health system, one that delivers on the basis of need and not ability to pay.
Marchers demanded an end to the privatisation of the health service by Mary Harney.
During the march Ógra Shinn Féin dropped a banner on O'Connell Street on the route of the march. The banner stated ‘Save Public Services - No! 2 Lisbon’.
Speaking following the health rally Ógra activist, Aine Downes said,
“We are again calling for the resignation of Mary Harney. Under her leadership the health service has deteriorated extensively. We are currently seeing our public services being stripped from us. Health and the access to adequate health provision is a basic human right. A right that is currently being denied to the millions of people living in Ireland."
"During the march Ógra dropped a banner demanding public services to be saved as well as stating our opposition to the Lisbon treaty. If the Lisbon treaty is accepted in Ireland we will see a further deterioration of the health service and will see further privatisation. That is one of many reasons why we must oppose the Lisbon treaty."
