A.R.I.S.E. - ÓSF Gaillimh Demand Demilitarisation of Shannon

Ógra Shinn Féin took to the streets of Galway last week demanding an end to the use of Shannon Airport by US Troops. With a one hour stop in the busy city centre area, activists were met enthusiastically by the public; collecting over 200 signatures on a petition demanding the Demilitarisation of Shannon.

Cúige Chonnacht Organiser Dominic Kerrigan said,

"The use of Shannon Airport by US troops is completely unacceptable. This is being facilitated and encouraged by the Irish Government. This completely destroys traditional Irish neutrality in the international arena, and facilitates the imperialism, the US are currently embarking upon."

"This includes the illegal occupation of Iraq. The US broke international law and now the Irish Government seems happy to facilitate this. Republicans stand firmly against imperialism and exploitation of any kind, whether that be in Iraq or in Ireland."

He concluded,

"I wonder can Bertie and the 'republican party' say the same?"
