Enniskillen Protest at Rachel Corrie Raid

Speaking after hosting a demonstration in protest at the recent actions of the Israeli government Sinn Féin Councillor Phil Flanagan has said that Saturday's raid by the Israeli military on the Irish ship Rachel Corrie was 'a completely unjustified and unacceptable use of force'.

The Erne West Councillor said: "The Rachel Corrie contains only humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza. It is being crewed by Human Rights activists. The Israeli government know this to be the case. They know the Rachel Corrie and her cargo presents no threat to Israel. The human rights activists onboard the boat had made it clear they had no issue with UN officials checking the cargo before they proceeded to Gaza.
"The Rachel Corrie should have been allowed to proceed to Gaza without Israeli aggression. The decision of the Israeli government to board the Rachel Corrie and divert her away from Gaza is a completely unjustified and unacceptable use of force. This is an attack on an Irish flagged vessel and it demands a strong response by the Irish government. "Sinn Féin have already made clear that part of this response must be the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador from Ireland."
