Young republican activists traveled from the four corners of Ireland to Dublin last Saturday to engage in the Sinn Féin Youth Conference, ‘Our Future – The Republican Alternative.’
The event which, was held in Ballybough Community Centre, Dublin included robust reports and discussions, on Ógra Shinn Féin, republican presence in the Colleges and Sinn Féin’s engagement with youth in the community, as well as outlining the vision and objectives of the new national youth committee.
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams, National Chairperson Declan Kearney, and new An Phoblacht editor John Hedges also addressed the meeting.
Speaking on the meeting, Ógra National Organiser Donnchadh O’Laoghaire said,
“It is always extremely useful to get activists together to debate and plot the future direction of the struggle. There was a lot of extremely useful debate at the conference, with a unique coming together of both youth and experience, to shape our engagements with young people and the type of Ireland we want to build. The more engagements we have, and ideas we share, the more professional and successful we can become.”
