A number of months ago the importance of social media (Youtube, Twitter, Facebook plus others) was highlighted as the new and increasingly important way of getting the Republican message out to as many people as possible.
There is no question that Sinn Féin and Ógra are leading the way but much, much more can be done, every cumann should be on Facebook. While many areas are taking advantage of social media, some are still not, hopefully after viewing this video, people might change their mind.
Take a look at this video which demonstrates the mind blowing revolution that IS social media.
All in all, get on Facebook!

What Ogra needs is more on the ground activism, and an assigned development director with the ability, funding and willingness to travel from area to area to develop new cumainn.
The online presence is great, but it's not bringing in many solid members in most areas. The thing which leads people to link up online is a first encounter with Ogra people, otherwise they wouldn't know or take the time to find it out.
The senior party cumainn must be encouraged to set up a correspond Ogra cumann and support and initial materials should be readily available from a section of the party development unit.
Agree with above point, activism is key and without activism you wouldn't have much to write about be that on a blog or facebook or anyother thing, you can't substitute activism by having an online presence, the disso 'internet warriors' are proof of that.
That said, the point of the person who posted the piece is trying to make is not do less activism in preference to having an online presence, but rather compliment your activism on the ground with social networks and all that they can offer.
There is no point having a protest that only 5 people know about, put out press releases, take pics and spread to thousands through established media or where they have a degree of censorship or even if they carry it, spread it online.
So no disagreement and I don't see any conflict, more activism, and more promotion of this activism through social media.
Social media is definitely the way forward but Ógra don't just need to add fellow republicans to cumann facebook accounts. They need to focus on a select target group. For example what could be done is to add the friends of the local youth club page or GAA club. There is no point having a cumann facbook page for a cumann in Cork when the majority of the friends are republicans from Belfast. It would be far more beneficial if local young people were added as friends and this way you can inform them of republican campaigns and events without them even knowing. As the youtube clip points out, it is not up to them to find us, its us to up to find them
Completely agree with all, the aim of the quick article was just to highlight that the likes of facebook/youtube is a free and very effective of way of showing people what we are at. Nothing compares to community activism, but we cannot rely on the local print media to carry articles demonstrating our hard work, just two quick examples of the effects my local facebook cumann page.
People asking for reg. forms to vote.
two people have joined via facebook in 3 months.
