Cork Ógra takes its first steps

The new Ógra cumann in Cork City made its initial moves towards building a substantial republican youth movement in the city. A number of activists from the cumann, which is still recruiting, attended the Cork City mayday march, organised by the Cork May Day committee.

In addition to the activists who carried the Ógra banner, a number of activists canvassed the on looking public and participants on the Lisbon treaty, with particular regard to the effects of the treaty on workers rights.

Sinn Féin Cork City Councillors Jonathan O’Brien and Annette Spillane also attended. The march was regarded as a success for the cumann considering it was their first real outing, noting in particular the positive feedback regarding the treaty, and are keen to push on to greater things.

It's great to see yet another Ógra cumann being formed to promote the republican message.

Fair play to all involved.
