ÓSF Dublin take part in demonstration supporting Thomas Cook workers

Dublin Sinn Féin and Ógra Shinn Féin Átha Cliath held a 9-hour vigil today in solidarity with the 45 Thomas Cook workers who are staging a lock-in protest at the offices at the bottom of Grafton Street.

A group of over 200 hundred people attended the rally at 10.30am this bank holiday Monday in support of the workers demands for better redundancy packages. Speaking at the event Cllr. Dessie Ellis said: " Millions of euros of taxpayers money have been used to bail out the banks while all we need is a certain amount to help out these workers. It's an absolute disgrace and I think people should wake up and see what's happening".

At about 3pm protesters received the news that a high-court order, ordering all employees to end the protest and leave the building by 7pm had been passed.

At approximately 6pm the workers voted unanimously to defy the order to leave and to continue their protest.

Speaking at the demonstrtion Ógra's Dublin Organiser Marcas Ó Mhaoldomhnaigh said that: "It's great to see such a large turnout in support of the Thomas Cook workers however it is not over, the protesters have been told that if they do not leave the building by 11am tommorrow they will face imprisonment for "contempt of court". We in Ógra would call on the people to assemble again tomorrow at 10am to stop any attempted eviction."
