Celebrating the Women of Struggle Dinner Dance

The Irish Republican Youth Movement, Ógra Shinn Féin are hosting a special Dinner Dance to celebrate the extraordinary yet often overlooked role of women in the republican struggle.

The 'Celebrating the Women of Struggle' Dinner Dance will take place in the Fir Trees Hotel, Strabane on Saturday 15th May and guests of honour on the night will be the families of the women on the Irish Republican Roll of Honour. There will also be a number of honourees on the night, women who have played a major role in the fight for Irish freedom, and who have continually assisted, supported and inspired Irish Republican Youth.

The national event will begin at 8pm sharp, and as well as a 4 Course Meal, there will be a prominent speaker, presentations to the families and honourees, and music by Ireland's finest rebel/folk band 'Paddywagon'. Tickets are priced at only £25 and due to huge demand, people interested in attending are asked to get tickets early. For tickets contact Barry McColgan on 07885569940 or osfnational@yahoo.ie.

Speaking on the event, Ógra National Gender Equality Officer Gemma McKenna said,
"Women have played a hugely important role in the republican struggle, yet often the extraordinary sacrifices they made and huge efforts endured have gone unnoticed and sometimes forgotten. Ógra Shinn Féin feels that it is vitally important to celebrate the part played by women in our struggle and in doing so creating the space and inspiring the young women of today by highlighting the exploits and selflessness of past generations."
"We will be deeply honoured to have families of our patriot dead in attendance and also the honourees on the night. It is important to stand in solidarity with the families in their ongoing loss, to pay tribute to their loved ones but also to honour the women who are continuing on that proud legacy today. We hope that the dinner dance can remember the many sacrifices, honour the ongoing struggle by women in Ireland and across the world, and help highlight the massive role that women have contributed in the Irish freedom struggle. Ní saoirse go saoirse na mban."
