Ógra Shinn Féin took to the airwaves this week as the green post-box campaign received its latest ‘backing’ from DUP MLA Jim Wells.
Mr Wells had contacted BBC talkback in relation to green post-boxes in Newcastle County Down. In response to an irk display from Wells, National organiser of Ógra Shinn Féin, Barry McColgan came on air to the defence of those involved in the campaign and re-iterate Ógra's position on the campaign.

If we arent able to carry out campaigns such as this with efficiency then we shouldnt carry them out at all.
I havnt seen the post box in Newcastle but going on what that reporter has said its a bollix of a job.
For fuck sake people get it together, a half arsed job like that that attracts needless criticism and ads weight to the claims of 'vandalism' from all sides of the comunity. A good idea would be to get it done right after royal mail finish tarnishing it with the english red.

32 COUNTIES AND 40 SHADES OF GREEN! ould wellsy obviously cant see this. There are lots of different shades of green postboxes in the free state so exactly which one is the correct shade? Interesting how its only this campaign which has attracted so much media attention, alot of the excellent work done by Ógra on pressing social issues never gets a mention.

Not many people want to head out and stay as long at a post box as the contractor because not many people want a fine, or be imprisiond which hase happend before!
so catch yerself on and go out an paint one!

I have painted a fair number of postboxes and take responsibility for those which i have been involved in painting which havnt been painted to a high standard for various unavoidible reasons.
Im just pointing out though that if the painting is carried out to a high standard, then the only people who are going to be against it are those who are against the idea of a united Ireland. When its a shabby job, it will attract criticism from everyone including those within our own ranks!
The one's in newcastle were blown out of porportion by a pro brit media, course your gona get criticism by them and by loyalists!

When this campaign was started, we knew that we wernt gona get support from the unionists and all that we were going to get was ciriticism, and even make things out to be worse than they are!

Even if the ones done in Newcastle was a bad job (which it wasnt) the reason it would of been was because of 'various unavoidible reasons'

Keep her lit folks, you're always going to have a situation where some local people are resistent to change at first but the more efficient you are at re-painting these again and again the more it will be the norm in the community.
On a slightly related point keep an eye out for any offensive loyalist grafitti that is daubed on government/department property and get elected reps to chase up. We got both NIE and DRD to remove significant grafitti, one example being a public carpark in Ballymena, so precedents are being set up which should be followed up on.
green postboxes! Yes we are definatly on our way to a united Ireland now.
in my opinion it's a waste of paint, ogra sinn fein should use their money and energy more effectively i.e. think of ways they could encourage more young people to be involved in politics and express their nationality in a diplomatic way.
