Sinn Féin Support Protest Against Fees

Sinn Féin Derry City Councillor Gerry MacLochlainn has called on people to support the protest by students against rising student fees tomorrow, Tuesday 2nd December, at the Ulster University Magee Campus Student Union.

Councillor MacLochlainn said,

"I would encourage people to attend this protest against rising student fees at 12.30pm in the students Union tomorrow (Tuesday 2nd December) as it is imperative that third level education remains within the remit of everyone.

"Many students are put off going on to university by these fees and high levels of debt incurred at a young age that may take years to repay after graduation.

"Sinn Féin has campaigned against student fees as education should be a right not an optional extra depending on your financial situation. Over the past few years student fees have grown and universities are again becoming the preserve of the wealthy.

"While many people may think that this issue does not affect them if it is not dealt with now then in the future when either they or their children want to go on to third level education they may find that it is not affordable. It is essential that people show up tomorrow to register their support against the increasing cost tuition fees."
