Successful Freshers week in UCD

Last week saw once again the annual UCD freshers fair. Drawing from the success of last years freshers fair the McDonagh/Farrell Cumann of UCD pulled out all the stops this year in order to hit the ground running and start as we mean to go forward in the coming year.

Over the course of the week experienced activists from years gone past in UCD took charge of the brightly decorated freshers stall and distributed leaflets, collected signatures for disability rights and freedom for Segi campaigns and generally spoke with the new and enthusiastic first years of UCD about who we are at Ógra and what we do.

UCD Ógra has been very successful in the past few years being active in a number of campaigns including Shell to Sea, the coke boycott, the right to health-care and housing and the campaign which opposed the sale of priceless historic items from Irish history to name but a few.

Chairperson of UCD Ógra Sinead Ni Chaoleáin, commenting on this years freshers fair had this to say:

‘We are extremely pleased at how this years freshers has gone. All in all it has been an extremely successful and enjoyable week seeing a huge interest from the student body in Ógra and the republican movement. We are enthusiastic and excited about the year ahead and hope to draw on the success of last year and make Ógra a force to be reckoned with in UCD.’

‘A big thank you needs to be given to Mary-Lou McDonald who joined us for one of the days in the freshers tent. With her help we were able to engage with the students and members of other societies and let them know what we are really about. UCD Ógra Abu!’
