Ógra Shinn Féin engage with School Students on 'Youth in Politics'

Ógra Shinn Féin Lurgan visited a local school this week, with the theme of "Young People in Politics."
Lismore Comprehensive School was the venue for an interesting engagement between A Level politics students and young republicans.
The event began with a brief presentation given by Ógra Shinn Féin, outlining what Ógra is and the role of Ógra within Sinn Féin and the wider republican movement. The presentation included descriptions of recent campaigns, how we organise and also identified some of our international comrades.
The presenters for the event also provided an all Ireland approach to the event. The 3 person team included Senan MacAoidh (Monaghan Ógra) and Peadar de Bluit (Killkenny Ógra) .
This proved an interesting insight for the students, as the debate progressed and a Questions and Answers session developed. The session largely focussed on the upcoming election and Ógra's position during the policing debate.
Senan MacAoidh said of the event,
"This was a very enjoyable and educational event for both ourselves and, we hope, the students."
He continued,
"I think we gave a good portrayal of being in Ógra and of republicanism."
Lurgan Ógra member Johnny McGibbon commented,
"This is the first in a series of events we have planned surrounding 'Young People in Politics' and 'Young People in Struggle'. We have plans to engage with other schools and youth groups around the town."
He also added,
"We envisage this plan rolling out still further and urge other Ógra groups to mobilise similarly."
Let's make our struggle relevant to our youth!
