Taoiseach remarks on Suicide disgraceful and unacceptable

Ógra Shinn Féin National Organiser, Barry McColgan has said An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern comments regarding suicide are unacceptable and disgraceful.

Mr McColgan said,

“The comments made by Bertie Ahern are grossly negligent, and totally unacceptable. It also highlights the attitude of the Dublin government towards suicide. It is one of the highest killers of Irish youth. Indeed we in Ógra have been running with a campaign aimed at securing an all Ireland approach to the issue of suicide prevention. Instead of making light of the issue of suicide we would urge Bertie and his government to do more to prevent suicide.

"Suicide is the biggest killer of our young people, it is a National crisis which every party across Ireland, should be united in tackling. Suicide Prevention urgently demands added resources and funding. Interventions by Bertie of this kind are unwelcome, unacceptable and disgraceful.

"In our youth election manifesto we also proposed that there be increased provision of mental health facilities for young people, that the Mental Health Act 2001 be fully implemented and that the recommendations of the Government's Mental Health Expert as set out in their report A Vision For Change (2006) also be implemented. This could at least be a start for Bertie and his government to tackle this issue head on"

Berie is a baffoon. Firstly his comments that,

"If people aren't happy with the economy they should commit suicide."

Well before agreeing that its disgraceful and irrisponsible for a peron of his stature, he must be living in a bubble in Leinster house.

People are 'taking their own lives', suicide is the biggest killer of our young people, suicide is a national crisis and here we have the 'drumcondra boy come Taoiseach' Bertie making a statement like that.

It shows the ilk of Bertie and Fianna Fail. He should resign, the quicker a genuine government the better!

this shows fianna fail, have lost all touch with local people and the mood of the nation so meny people see this as a major crisis and this government dont. that is WORRING!!, they care little for the hard=ships many irish people face and care less about the biggest killer of irish youth.

it also shows F.F are not fit for government seeking all those who appose their policy should just get out of the way in afect not leading this country but dictating.

the comments made showed a lack of respect for the familes of those who have suffered a loss to suicide, and will only and to the pain alresdy suffered,

it shows a worring sign of arrogants that this government things it can say and do what it wants regaudless but we the people must stand up and say to F.F CARE LITTLE ABOUT US AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
