South Down Ógra Remember Vol. Tom Williams


Several hundred Republicans from across South Down decended on the sea side town of Warrenpoint to commerate the 65th anniversary of the exceution of Vol. Tom Williams.

Among those taking part were repersentatives of the two local Ógra Shinn Féin Cumain in South Down as well as Ógra activists from Newry and South Armagh.

Chairing the proceedings, Cllr. Mick Murphy paid tribute to Vol. Tom Williams and cited that the large attendance partricularly of young people at the event was testimony to the enduring menory of the Volunteer's life.

His sentimoneys were echoced by Michael Grey, Chairman of the Padraig Pearse Ógra Shinn Féin cumann who said that,

''Not only have hundreds come out and remembered Tom, but many here today are in their late teens and early twentys.''

He continued,

''Today is an example of the continued growth of Sinn Féin but more importantly of the growth of Ógra.''

"Not only are we here to remember Tom, but we are also here to open our new three storey offices which will be able to facilate the growing demand by people within the local area.''
