Ógra Shinn Féin Protest in Lurgan over Israeli action in Gaza

Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd and Banbridge Cllr. Dessie Ward join the protest
On Monday 5th of January members of Sinn Féin youth took to Lurgan Town Centre to protest at the conflict currently raging in the middle east. Protesting in the town centre, Ógra Shinn Féin flew the Palestinian flag and carried posters calling for an end to Israeli military action in Gaza. They also distributed over 500 leaflets and engaged with the general public.

Ógra Shinn Féin an Lorgain chairperson Lee Casey stated,

"Ógra Shinn Féin an Lorgain are protesting today to express our anger at the ongoing actions of the state of Israel which in the last ten days have resulted in the deaths of over 500 Palestinians, many of whom are women and children, in Gaza."

"Israeli forces have actively hampered the humanitarian effort in Gaza by attacking civilian targets including a mosque, and other public buildings . Two years ago Hamas was democratically elected in internationally observed elections, yet Israel has continued to place an unjust embargo on Palestine; and up until a few days ago, has prevented medical supplies entering Gaza."

He added,

"We call on the state of Israel to end its genocide in Gaza and would further call on them to allow the humanitarian effort to continue in the hope that there will be no further loss of life in Gaza."
