Republican Students Engage with MLA’s in Assembly

The ‘Sheena Campbell’ Sinn Fein Cumann in Queens organised a successful trip to the Assembly. The well attended educational tour started off with an overview of the Stormont buildings, with the tour guide detailing the history of the building. Activists were then shown the chambers and the committee room.

Sinn Féin MLA’s Cathal Boylan and Willie Clarke had an informal discussion about their respective briefs, and they gave a quick break down of their daily duties and the important input students can have in shaping future motions and policy.

Speaking after the event Grace Lynch of the Sheena Campbell Cumann said:

“Today’s trip was educational, it served to remind us the history of unionist dominance and mis-rule in the past, to the situation today where Sinn Féin are the largest party in the north and that the work we are doing up there serves to better our own communities.”

“It was a good opportunity for new members to engage with MLA’s, and see how much work Sinn Fein are actually doing within the Assembly, and was a chance for them to put forward any ideas that they had to the MLA’s in regards to DSD, Policing & Justice and keeping Republican politics relevant in all aspects of their work.”

John McD looks very comfortable sitting in that assembly seat.
