Ógra help launch Sinn Féin's All Ireland Road Safety Policy

An deireadh seachtain seo beidh Ógra Shinn Féin ag cur tús le feachtas náisiúnta úrnua ag díriú ar sláinteachas bóithre. I ndiadh daoine ag cur lámh ina bhás féin sé timpistí bóithre an cúis báis is mó idir an t-aos óg. Is uafásach an scéal seo i sochaí an lae inniu, scéal atáimid ag iarraidh a athrú gaus sinn ag cur tús leis an bhfeachtas seo.
This weekend ÓSF will be launching a new national campaign which will focus on Road Safety. After suicide, an issue campaigned on in the past, road fatalities, are the biggest killer of young people in Ireland . This level of carnage is an unnecessary truism of today’s society, one which Ógra endeavour to change by undertaking this campaign.
Each year on Irish roads hundreds of people are killed, many of whom are children and young people. By making this the focus of national activities in the coming months, ÓSF believe we can make the general public acutely aware of the responsibilities of every person on the road; driver, passenger, cyclist or pedestrian.
In undertaking this campaign, through grassroots activism, Ógra want to see a change in how people look and act upon Road Safety.
Speaking on the new Road Safety campaign, Ógra Campaigns officer, Peadar de Bluit said,
"As this campaign is primarily a peer-based outreach programme, we see the most important part of our campaign as being engagement to try and open people's eyes to the necessity of being more cautious and vigilant on our roads. Our Road Safety campaign aims to stunt the increasing amount of road fatalities in our country among young people in particular. We believe that through grassroots activism, pushing the aims of this campaign in the coming months, we can achieve real and meaningful change in the attitudes of young people towards Road Safety, thereby making the country’s roads safer for all."
"For us in Ógra Shinn Féin, this campaign is about increasing the awareness of younger road users. Our aims at outlined, endeavour to make road use safer in the future by empowering young people with the necessary information now."
"Dúinne in Ógra Shinn Féin sé aidhm an feachtas seo ná meabhair agus ciall, i measc daoine óga ach go háirithe, a spreagadh ar na bóithre. Leis na aidmheanna a luamar, táimid ag iarraidh na bóithre a dhéanamh níos sláintiúla sa todhchaí, tré oideachas a cur ar dhaoine óga anois."
