New International Officer for Ógra

Orlagh (Second from the left) at a protest against the repression in the Basque Country

Orlagh McCauley has recently been co opted onto the Ógra Shinn Féin national Executive to fulfil the role of International Officer.

Indeed Orlagh is best suited to the role. Citing Cuba as her favourite holiday destination and her favourite book as Fidel Castro’s ‘History Will absolve me’ there are no guesses who she would most like to meet, if he had of being living. None other than El Comandante Che Guevara.

As well as Cuba, Orlagh said she is interested in all of Latin America’s fight against North American imperialism. After meeting the families of the Cuban 5 she has closely followed their legal case as well as Leonard Peltier’s. On a recent trip to the Basque Country she experienced at first hand the oppression inflicted by the Spanish authorities on the Basque people.

Upon taking up her role as international officer Orlagh said her priorities in the upcoming year would be to “continue to campaign, protest and agitate for our international comrades and also strengthen our fraternal links with them. Whether that be Eukal Herria, Latin America, Palestine, New Zealand, Corsica or beyond.”

Hasta la Victoria Siempre!
