Protest at presence of British Military Forces at Magee Fresher’s Fair

Magee University held a Careers Fair in the campus Sports Hall on Tuesday 16th October. The Ógra Shinn Féin Cumann at the University held a peaceful protest, highlighting the hypocrisy of the University's stance on Sinn Féin involvement in campus issues.

A spokesperson for the Magee Cumann said

“Ógra Shinn Féin members have been repeatedly prevented from recruiting members on campus, on the grounds that we may be causing offence to our fellow students.”

“During the Fresher's Fair held on the 25th of September, we were not allowed to display our Ireland of equal’s banner, also councillor Billy Page was not allowed to speak to students, even though he is a representative in the Northlands area. Surely this goes against the University's own protocol, which states, in principle A that,

"It is the view of the University that political activity is a fundamental right devolved to the Students union and the activities undertaken by its Clubs and Societies."

“So surely there should be parity of esteem, as regards the British Navy openly recruiting on the University grounds. Their presence is much more offensive to the majority of students that currently attend the campus. In light of this Sinn Féin members on campus decided to hold a peaceful protest outside the Sports hall doors to highlight the issue.

“However careers fair staff and university security, removed Sinn Fein banner's and tried to prevent the protest from taking place. When we asked why this had happened and why Sinn Féin members were not allowed to protest at the British Navy presence we were told “the navy had paid to be there."

The Ógra Shinn Féin Cumann at Magee will continue to highlight this issue with the University of Ulster until the issue is resolved.

Imagine, nuala o loan could not find any evidence to say that police did have information on the greysteel massacre prior to it,is that because maybe military intelligence did, after all the leader of the UDA in derry at that time was a former british soldier, possibly still under the pay of his bosses. And she has not established "Torrens Knight was protected from the rigours of the law" that is a cop out,if he was a police informant he was protected from being arrested until he stepped over the line,Greysteel was that.people are great at this language use when it comes to police informers, they are all snakes, grasses, touts, sources paid by the state to destroy communities no matter what side of the divide in working class areas, out them all now for the sake of a better future for Ireland.....

I agree that is unfair to recruit for the British armed forces in the Magee campus, just the same way that it is unfair to recruit for SinnFein. Keep politics out of university every day life full stop, if people want to join, let them do so in their own time out of their own free will, both sides should qut forcing it on people. Seeing the collusion protest at the fornt of MD is just as offensive as the British recruitment stand. United ireland definetly, let the irish have what is rightly ours, but quit trying to force that crap on us. Politics = corruption + bullshit + empty promises, DONT VOTE...ORGANISE
