Ballymun needs Housing!

Last week members of Ógra Shinn Féin and McCabe/Quigley Cumann Ballymun took to the streets of their community to highlight the high numbers of boarded up housing in their area. These empty units not only facilitate anti social behaviour and crime have become makeshift dumping sites. Aside from this there is massive demand for housing transfers due to Regeneration Project and hold ups in development in the area. The houses, many of which have been vacant for sometime, are not likely to be redeveloped in the future.

Dublin Ógra Shinn Féin Cathaoirleach Oisín Ó Dubhláin had this to say:

"These houses are a very visible representation of the failings in our public housing system. People are crying out for transfers and social housing yet these buildings remain closed aiding those who seek to damage the community rather than supporting new families and honest hard working people. We in Ógra call for a national public housing scheme which sees the provision of housing to all who need it as a right and the immediate refurbishment of vacant units so they can once again become a home."
