Moilligh Síos!

Cllr. Johnny McGibbon
Uladh Organiser
Ógra Shinn Féin

In recent years, Ireland has become infamous for the number of accidents on our roads. Road accidents have become one of the largest killers of young people here. Road Safety is an issue which can touch all communities, all families and all of our people. It is an issue that as young Republicans we must show leadership on, within our communities, amongst our peers and within wider society.

With the recent launch of the “Moilligh Síos”, or “Slow Down”, campaign; Ógra Shinn Féin have set out to make a serious and considerable impact on the issue of Road Safety.

Through actions across Ireland, from town centres to busy roads, we hope to raise awareness, and intend to ensure that Road Safety is to the fore of the public conscience; particularly amongst Ireland’s youth.

We will continue to highlight the need for a serious, mature, All-Ireland approach to the issues of Road Safety. There is a sensible need for All-Ireland Departmental co-operation, for All-Ireland Ministerial co-operation, and for All-Ireland safety strategy measures to try and stop this ever increasing cause of death.

Issues like drink driving and joyriding/death driving need to be tackled. Likewise our roads, our road signs and our transport system all need to be brought up to a safe standard; on a national basis.

Ógra activists need to be active on this issue, we need more vigils, more leaflet drops, more public talks and the erection of bill boards. This is the time to be active.

I look forward to working on the rest of the campaign and remember,

“MOILLIGH SÍOS!”
