Don’t Score an Own Goal urged at Derry v Donegal Clash

As thousands of GAA fans gathered in Ballybofey for Sunday’s championship clash between Derry and Donegal, they where met with a clear message, ‘Don’t score an own goal – vote no to Lisbon!’

Ógra Shinn Féin activists erected a banner across from the main entrance and assisted Donegal Sinn Féin to leaflet the thronged crowd. They where joined by Derry Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and Donegal’s dynamic duo Senator Pearse Doherty and Padraig MacLochlainn to urge football fans to votáil Níl! in the upcoming referendum.

National Organiser of Ógra Shinn Féin Barry McColgan said,

“Ógra Shinn Féin have been targeting GAA matches throughout the Lisbon campaign and have been receiving a very enthusiastic response. On Sunday we erected a banner at the front entrance to the grounds, distributed thousands of leaflets, and engaged with hundreds of people.”

“With less than 2 weeks to the referendum, we will be stepping up the campaign for a No! vote, and aim to engage the broadest section of Irish youth on this crucial issue. We want to ensure that on June 12th the Irish people don’t score an own goal, but rather triumph by rejecting the Lisbon Treaty.”
