Partitionist Lisbon Treaty Highlighted in Omagh

No! 2 Lisbon was the message last Saturday in Omagh, as Ógra Shinn Féin got active in the county town of Tyrone.

The republican youth movement where highlighting the denial of voting rights for northerners in the upcoming Lisbon Treaty. (June 12th)

As well as handing out hundreds of leaflets, and erecting a banner, Ógra Shinn Féin activists also engaged with dozens of shoppers and members of the public.

Speaking on the event, West Tyrone Ógra Shinn Féin chair, Barry McNally said,

“It is critical that northern citizens are made aware of their denial of democratic rights in the upcoming Lisbon Treaty. This is a partitionist referendum, even though its negative affects will be felt by all across Ireland if it is passed. We received a very positive response in Omagh, with many people angered at being denied their vote in this crucial referendum.”

“The Lisbon Treaty will undermine Ireland’s voice in Europe; it will further erode our sovereignty, and attack our public services, environment and workers rights. For a multitude of reasons, Lisbon must be rejected and it is outrageous, although not surprising that we in the north are being denied a vote which will affect our future.”

“The Irish people must stand up for the rest of Europe on June 12th, and send out a message loud and clear that another Europe is possible – but only if we vote No!”
