Ógra target Monaghan in Lisbon Youth Canvass

Ógra Shinn Féin activists mobilised in Monaghan town last Saturday on a youth canvass calling for a NO! vote in the upcoming Lisbon Treaty.

As well as canvassing in the local town centre, the youth wing of Sinn Féin also leafleted a number of local housing estates and a large skate park development.

Speaking on the youth canvass Monaghan Ógra activist Senan MacAoidh said,

“We engaged with loads of young people today and the majority where opposed to the Lisbon Treaty. Many where appalled at the damaging impact that Lisbon would have on our futures, pointing to the attack it would have on workers rights, saying that young Irish workers where already heavily exploited.”

“Many young people where also concerned at the scrapping of Irish neutrality and the increased possibility of a militarised Europe, and a European superstate army if the Lisbon Treaty was passed.”

“The youth canvass was extremely useful in keeping people informed of the upcoming referendum, but also in finding out their views and opinions. It was very clear from our engagements that come June 12th, the youth of Monaghan will be standing up for Ireland and voting No!”
