Palestine Solidarity Protest in Strabane

This June marks the 40th anniversary of the Israeli invasion of the West bank and Gaza strip. The subsequent occupation of Palestinian territories and the brutal oppression of it’s people are in defiance of both UN resolutions and international law.

Israel pursues these policies with impunity because it is shielded by the UN Security council veto of the United states and the moral cowardice of the European union. After the 1967 war, Daily life for Palestinians living in the occupied territories has been one of hardship, injustice and torture. Land theft, home demolitions and ethnic cleansing are all too familiar to the Palestinian minority. Palestinians suddenly faced the military occupation and settlement on their land.

Since 1967 Israel’s territorial expansion and oppression of the Palestinian people has been largely ignored and to a certain degree, facilitated by Western powers. We the ordinary people on the street must conclude that the failure of the international community to enforce international law with respect to Israel’s occupation of Arab territories, has weakened the United Nations and undermined international legality.
This Saturday 9th June Ógra Shinn Féin will be holding a protest in Strabane Town Centre to highlight 40 years of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian Territories. We are asking the public to support this action and make a stand against global imperialism. People are being asked to assemble at Abercorn square at 2:30pm. Join us to protest against the occupation and the failure of the Irish government to bring pressure to bear on Israel,
