Cork Ógra Active in Easter Commemoration

Cork Ógra Shinn Féin played a major role in the Easter Commemoration in Cork City on Easter Sunday with members taking part in a wide variety of roles.

Numerous members played with the Youghal Volunteers RFB and others were part of the colour party on the day, Ógra activist Alan Conway laid a wreath at the republican plot in St. Finbarr's cemetery on behalf of Cork Ógra and Joe Lynch read the Proclamation of the Republic with other members attending and following an Ógra banner on the march to the cemetery.

The commemoration was chaired by Cllr. Thomas Gould, Cllr. Fiona Kerins delivered the Sinn Féin Easter Message praising the work of Ógra Shinn Féin and Sinn Féin Vice-President Mary Lou McDonald delivered the main oration.

Commenting on a successful commemoration Niamh Kerins said,

"We've had a great commemoration and it was very promising to see so many Ógra members play an active role in the events here today; as well as that there was a large number of other young people in attendance which bodes well for the future in seeing to it that the Ireland which the leaders of the 1916 Rising envisioned is made a reality."
