South Down Ógra Take Part In Easter Commemorations

South Down Ógra played a key role in Easter commemorations on Sunday, with the Ógra colour party leading the parade in Newcastle and also marching in the main commemoration in Castlewellan.

Speaking afterwards, Brendan McGuinness of South Down Ógra said,

"The Ógra colour party leading the parade in Newcastle is symbolic of how young people have been to the forefront of our struggle, and is especially fitting when it was Na Fianna units that fired the first shots on Easter Sunday 1916."

"Numerous young people who gathered for the commemorations later approached Ógra members commending them and enquiring about joining. We will continue to do this every year and as young people will proudly remember our patriot dead."
