Wicklow Ógra leads the Way in Honouring 1916

Ógra Shinn Féin led the way in Wicklow in commemorating the 1916 rising.

Ógra was to the fore in organising this year’s events taking part in a wide range of activities. Young republicans were tasked to deliver on the theme of this year’s events in Wicklow.

The theme for 2010 was ‘unemployment’, Ógra set about distributing leaflets, designing banners and organising young people to play their role in commemorating 1916.

Ógra Shinn Féin led the County Commemoration which was held in Arklow were up to 150 people attended.

Speaking at the event was Ógra activist Jake Ó hAmhsaigh,

“It’s great to see so many young people here today actively commemorating what the leaders of 1916 went out and fought for. Ógra decided today’s slogan should be ‘The Unfinished Business of 1916’ because that’s where we are at. In today’s Ireland we see youth unemployment at an all time high, we see youth emigration and we live on partitioned island I don’t think I need to tell anyone this is not the Country outlined in the Proclamation of 1916”

Wicklow Ógra also took part in the Easter Commemoration held in Bray and in South Dublin. In the build up to Easter week Ógra promoted the Easter Lily through educational leaflets and Spray Painting.
