Ireland's History is not for Sale - Dublin ÓSF

Dublin Ógra Shinn Féin held a demonstration outside Adam's Auctioneers on St. Stephens Green yesterday to protest the sale of Historical Memorabilia associated with the Easter Rising and the Tan War. Items for sale included original flags, medals, weapons, uniforms and documents from the period.
Following previous demonstrations, including one which succesfully disrupted one of the auctions - Adams' staff were not taking any chances and quickly contacted the Gardaí who arrived within minutes of the beginning of the protest.

Protesters received great support from local Dubliners as well as tourists, many of whom were shocked that such historical items would be sold off to private collectors.

Speaking at the protest, Dublin Ógra representative Mark Ó Maoldomhnaigh said: " Ireland's History should not be sold off to the highest bidder, it should be retained for the benefit of the people of this country. The government has a duty to step in here and ensure that these items are brought into public ownership."
